MD Hospitalist needed. Multiple openings for all specialties. Consider a unique opportunity to practice Emergency Medicine in the frontier of bush Alaska. Join a collaborative medical staff in the care of nearly 30,000 predominantly Native Alaskans. Our 50 bed JCAHO certified hospital in Bethel represents the center of our system. Here, our modern 11 bed Emergency Department provides emergent care to nearly 20,000 patients annually. Remarkably, nearly half of these are children. As an ACS certified level IV Trauma Center we provide stabilization and transfer services to numerous trauma patients who reach definitive care in Anchorage some 400 miles away. Our remote setting and underserved population promote a unique practice of medicine that is both challenging and rewarding. Pathology frequently encountered include: strokes, pulmonary disease, orthopedic injuries as well as numerous infectious diseases from MRSA to TB to botulism. Our Community: The city of Bethel with approximately 6,000 inhabitants sits on the banks of the Kuskokwim River. As the hub of the Kuskokwim Delta, Bethel serves as the center for transportation and culture. The 58 surrounding villages represent a predominantly Yupik Eskimo culture that still relies heavily on their hunter-gatherer traditions. The sprawling 19 million acre Yukon Delta National Wilderness refuge provides ample opportunity to enjoy nature's beauty. Job Description: The Staff Physician shall be committed to contributing to our Mission of, "Working together to achieve excellent health". 12 hour shifts with single physician coverage and 12 hrs of midlevel provider coverage daily, and EMR documentation. 24 hour tele-radiology available, 24 hour on-call CT, ultrasound and radiographs, Sonosite M-Turbo for bedside ultrasound use, 24 hour consultation with specialists in Anchorage and Lifemed fixed wing transport service available both locally in Bethel and from Anchorage. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: MD Licensure in the State of Alaska. DEA license. Residency training in EM, Family Practice or Board certification in another specialty with significant ED experience. This is a high level position so potential candidate must meet all specified requirements to be eligible for consideration.
